Hey, my stats are booming!

At least that’s what WordPress told me a few times over the past days – apparently the most viewed count went up from 82 to 139 on the 19th, and generally the amount of people who visit my blog (and the amount of times they click on stuff) increased a good amount. Not too bad I guess, but now I’m almost sad that I didn’t get to take more and better pictures when we were at the gamescom, since so many people show interest for it.

But I guess I can only keep that in mind and do it better next year. Especially since I’m going to know my camera a whole lot better by then than I do now. At least for now we’re definitely planning to go again already. And if we’re really crazy and my gamer friend isn’t just joking but actually serious about going to Blizzcon.. Well, I can imagine that would interest a lot of people eventually. We’ll see! Maybe I should actually get serious about making a cosplay, too..

I actually went to Gamescom! *_*

A friend only came up with the idea like two or three weeks before it started, so it’s not like we were prepared or anything. The tickets had to be bought on eBay, and the way on the train was.. well, supposed to be long and boring. But since we had to get up at 2:00 in the morning to catch our train and I only got one hour of sleep before that (not my fault, I got woken up and couldn’t fall asleep again.. -_-) I pretty much spent the travel time being grumpy and awfully tired.

To top it all of we got stuck on a train that had to wait out some technical troubles, together with drunk football fans who were on the way to cologne as well. Not one of the nicest trips I’ve ever been on – an intoxicated group of chanting, bawling and shouting people waving flags around and blasting repetitive music occasionally don’t exactly fit into my idea of acceptable travel companions. And since they had the same destination, we kept bumping into them on train stations and in train compartments.

In the end we did survive, and looking back I’d say it was worth it. We saw some awesome cosplays, but I still couldn’t take many pictures – a lot of people in costumes somehow thought it was a good idea to hang around in the darker halls to pose and show off for everyone with a camera. Needless to say that didn’t work out so well. And the rest wanted to go around and have a look themselves of course, so there just weren’t many opportunities. In the better lit cosplay area we saw Eir Stegalkin and a Pool Party Ahri (at least that’s what I think who they are):

Besides the lack of good lighting in most places, taking pictures was also made harder by the loads of people who didn’t care or notice and kept walking right in front of the camera, and by a lot of constantly moving cosplayers too – I’m guessing they wanted to get some good poses for the cameras, but eventually ended up moving around constantly. Not to mention the photographers (the ones using small digital cameras or iPads and the likes included) who would simply walk in front of others without any courtesy to get a better view themselves.

We managed to see the cosplay contest of League of Legends, which mainly consisted of different versions of Janna, Nidalee, Annie, Katarina, Riven, Syndra, Leona and Jinx. Weirdly enough, most of the male cosplayers actually came as female characters as well – and there was a ‘female Tryndamere’ where I’m pretty damn sure it was actually an Arthas cosplay. With Frostmourne and all. But I guess there’s no need to make a new costume if you can simply recycle an old one..

After the show was over they started throwing some Teemo hats, Poros and Ziggs bombs in the crowd, but sadly I was far too way back in the crowd and had to protect my camera from thrown objects and all the jumping people, so I had no chance of trying to catch a Poro. Guess I’ll have to invest into some Poro Snacks for next year. 😦

But anyway! I can’t really say much about the other stuff since we didn’t have enough time by far to see everything, and we didn’t even get to check out the blizzard stuff at the Gamescom – kind of a shame, because Blizzcon is definitely too far away to visit – but for next year we’re already planning to visit again. And for more than one day this time!

No, I’m not dead yet! o_o

Though I guess this blog was for a good while.. But stuff happened, Life’s been busy, work exhausting, a relationship ended – a faction and realm change and a completely new character, class and a raid group happened and so on, so I guess I can somewhat excuse the lack of productivity before myself. Oh, and I picked up some other creative things on the way, so it hasn’t been a completely lost cause for the past few months.

Anyway! I’m not even sure anyone is/was (still) reading anything on here, but I’m mainly doing this for myself and felt like I’ve been lacking something to put some thoughts down lately, so I figured I might as well start to write something again. Especially since I plan to play some more and maybe new games eventually that I didn’t play before.. Not only WoW. So I hope in the second half of 2014 gaming will be even more fun and exciting than the first, especially with Warlords of Draenor slowly getting in sight.. And some new stuff out there that I’d like to try. 🙂

The future of WoW is going to be awesome!

At least from what I’ve seen so far at BlizzCon for the plans of the new add-on, Warlords of Draenor: housing in form of a whole customized town, all these quality of life changes with account wide tabs for fun items or heirlooms, getting rid of certain stats (yeah, I wasn’t a fan of having hit AND expertise), item squish for getting more grounded numbers again, main stats on armor changing with specialization, seeing the past of Draenor before it’s destruction and the Iron Horde.. I don’t even know where to start, and I’m probably forgetting half of the news!

The most impressive thing that I’ve seen so far and am really excited about is the update of the character models:

(The picture belongs to Blizzard, obviously; here are also the new models of male orcs and gnomes available besides the dwarf so far!)

This is probably what everyone has been waiting for, finally not looking like a weird old curiosity that crawled out from a dusty attic somewhere as soon as you stand next to a pandaren or goblin. And they’re even doing a really good job of keeping it as close to the original design as possible, only enhancing the look and making it pretty badass without turning it into something different! I’m really looking forward to getting a peek at the female updates – the facial expressions of the gnome they showed at the event were the best.

My biggest hope is for female humans actually, their animations where always so stiff and uncomfortable that I could never play one, and for the dwarves to look better in general in the future. I might be able to actually play a paladin once the changes are live!

I don’t know how that is for other players, but I think I’m getting addicted all over again – but by now it was kind of obvious that I probably wouldn’t be able to get away from this game anyway, at all, ever..!^^

No reins from the Headless Horseman again this year :/

I was doing the daily queue thing for getting the Loot-Filled Pumpkin of course, in the hope of maybe being lucky and finding the The Horseman’s Reins. Ending up only getting more Sinister Squashlings than I can carry on top of multiple The Horseman’s Horrific Hood‘s (of course not on a character that can use plate), besides the countless masks. So it seems like I’ll have to keep playing another year and see how it goes when Hallows End comes around for 2014!

But I don’t even care so much about the horse, it’s a rather rare mount anyway and I’m not really expecting to get it. The worst part is that my favourite mount disappeared again: the Flying Broom. T_T

There is no other mount that small and comfortable in the game at all, I still end up using an every day Gryphon or Wyvern most of the time because all these awesome and cool mounts like the different dragons, and now with Pandaria the cloud serpents for example, are nice to look at – but very impractical. It’s so much nicer not to get stuck in every door frame and being able to land on smaller ledges without problem to quickly mine some ore or just for sitting in a nice place with a great view, that it’s always somewhat painful to return to these huge and inefficient flying mounts. If only I would be allowed to keep my broom.. It’s one of the few things I really don’t like at all.

I would probably even buy it from the Blizzard Shop if was the only option for getting a permanent broom they offered, and I’ve never bought anything from there at all.

Having fun with the Aqua Jewel

There have been a lot of items introduced with the Timeless Isle and all those new rare mobs running around everywhere on Pandaria, and lot’s of them are not only fun to use – they are actually useful in some kind or the other. For example, there is the Cursed Swabby Helmet, which not only turns you into an ape with a diving helmet (yeah, I know they’re Hozen, but they’re rather ape-like after all o_o), but also gives you a nice buff that increases your swimming speed and grants breathing under water:

That alone is neat enough already, but on top of that the Aqua Jewel is usable when in Hozen form already and applies its buff over it, resulting in a ghostly look. So if you ever need a ghost ape for roleplay purposes – at least the look of it applies to transformations like this one, and I’m assuming that the speed buff works as well, though I’m not entirely sure if stacks with the one of the helmet – will have to try this out at some point.

Additionally, there are other transformations or extras that get altered when using the Jewel, like the Druid and Priest Statue Set (the green glow becomes rather ghostly too, and way harder to see than normally), the Goblin Dragon Gun, Mark II (the gun looks as see-through as the user, and the flames are pretty much invisible) and also on the changed shape of the Elixir of Wandering Spirits (and makes you look like the spirit of a Pandaren for real – I guess that could be useful for roleplay purposes as well eventually).

And not to forget, besides full transformations it also works on stuff that applies to the character like Ken-Ken’s Mask (This one makes it almost look like the face disappeared instead of showing a mask – though I guess it would have been cool to have it floating around with its normal look instead) and on mounts! And that’s only what I tried so far, maybe there are even better ways to utilize the spooky effect. Even though Halloween is over already.^^

But wait! Actually there is something to do..

Because it’s the time around the year, with Halloween nearby and of course the Hallow’s End event, there’s this tiny chance of getting the mount from the Headless Horseman.

Halloween is my favourite holiday by far, so I’m trying to get all those nice items that are limited to this short amount of time right now, and the mount is still on my list. So of course the queue for receiving the Loot-Filled Pumpkin is one of the few things I need to do daily – besides crafting Jard’s Peculiar Energy Source – in the hope of being lucky this year. If I can’t have a permanent broom mount (yeah, I actually hate blizzard and druids a little for this, why are they allowed to have their no-cast form all time of the year, but I can’t keep my broom? It’s so very sad when it disappears, every year again 😦 ), I’d at least like to have the horse at some point! I’m not positive it will happen, but there’s no other way but try..

In the meantime, while WoW has it’s Halloween event out for ages, and even Terraria is spawning loads of pumpkins and dressed up zombies, the Harrowing in League of Legends is still nowhere in sight.. They keep saying that it isn’t related to Halloween and they’re going to release it whenever, maybe even just in November, but that would definitely put me off slightly. I want to get and try out the Haunted Zyra skin around the right spooky time, not when it’s pretty much over over and Christmas is about to approach rapidly, somewhat killing the whole mood mood.

For that reason, and because the skin will be permanent and some other, old skins will be available for a short time I might put that back for a while and get some of those instead, especially since people speculate that a Zyra nerf incoming with the release of an amazing new look, but I will see.. not sure if I can actually resist, it’s my favourite theme after all. FrankenTibbers Annie and Pumkinhead Fiddlestix are on the list as well.. When the event finally comes up it won’t be good for my wallet. Not at all. ._.

It’s probably good I got Zombie Brand last year already.. Even Headless Hecarim and Haunted Nocturne are very tempting, and I’m not even playing them. Why is it that purely cosmetic content in free to play games is always so irresistible? I’m not looking forward to the day when Blizzard eventually adds holiday themed and seasonal armor and mounts to buy for real money eventually, following those weird Helmets they introduced a while ago!

But while I wait for the opportunity to spend money I don’t actually want to spend.. I’ll probably go build a haunted house in Terraria (Since I finished my Daily Quest and Timeless Isle stuff in WoW already). 😀

Oh Terraria

Sometimes this weird thing happens in life.. Everything is coming at once, way less time for doing fun things everyday, and then there’s a new game taking almost all leftover time away from the long-term favourites, so things shift around uneasily.

What happened to me is Terraria at the moment, which was rather unexpected – bought on steam when it was on sale for really cheap, simply to take a look at it because some online streamers seemed to mention it frequently (yeah, I can be influenced that easily. On the plus side, I don’t trust normal advertising!). I never played Minecraft either because it never seemed to have that much of an appeal…

And now I happen to log in every day, on the server of a friend that’s constantly online, to do some more digging and building instead of playing more World of Warcraft. Overall the time is only enough for doing a bit of daily crafting and quests now, which is neither exciting nor.. inspiring. So what happens with a blog that’s based on a certain game, but there’s just nothing happening on that front and so there’s not really anything to write about at the moment? It gets neglected. >_<

And that basically right after I wanted to get better with writing more in general. Great move. But what now? Going back to World of Warcraft full-time, or starting to post about other games instead? Things are to be considered..

Flying high!

And I don’t just mean the fact that I managed to push both of my mainly played characters to 90 by now and got them somewhat decently equipped to start with more serious things soon, but also quite literally:

Isn’t the Timeless Isle awesome? I think it is, especially for people like me who decided to change servers and start completely new right when it could get interesting with the last 90 hunter, so as the eternal slowpoke it’s great to have a faster way of getting good equip.

And then there’s just so much to do in general when hitting max level! All those new quests and dailies, the Black Prince, Proving Grounds, exploring everything on the Timeless Isle to get the shiny new gear and steamroll some heroic scenarios with guild members.. And of course picking a new character to level next!

I actually did want to play some League of Legends, Bioshock Infinite, Hitman, Skyrim and all those other games sitting there, waiting for me until I have some time to dive into them, but then I never get to it. Too bad that WoW just never ends.. at least not for a good amount of time yet, until things get a bit boring again until the next expansion. If it gets as good as Mists of Pandaria (and in my opinion it’s the best Add On they ever made) I’ll definitely spend money and a big amount of time with it again.

Guess I’ll only ever really stop playing when they finally shut the servers down.. though then they’ll keep that one realm still going, so all the old people have something to play because they knew it from their youth and don’t forget all about it when they try to learn new stuff that’s too confusing anyway. So in the end I might never quit after all.. 😛

Sometimes, all you need is a good kick in the butt..

And I didn’t really get one, that’s why it took me so long to get posting again! To be fair, I wasn’t at home for quite a long time, and that feeling of being on vacation doesn’t really help with being productive. And then I was rather sick for a good while once I got back home, so it’s not like I was just lazy all the time.

But now I’m feeling way better already.. and keep pushing the work on a blog post to ‘tomorrow’.. and then again the next day.. and never get anything done at all. It really isn’t so easy, getting back into a routine with something that is fun, but still work of some kind, not the same as just playing or browsing around and not having to think at all.

Now I did find some motivation somehow.. and who would have thought? It was a kick in the butt – only that I wasn’t the one receiving it, I was the one giving it!

I feel sorry for the poor guy.. being depressed and wanting to die, and then a random person comes up and kicks him all the way home! For anyone who’s wondering, he is the objective of the quest Finding Yi-Mo from Mei Barrelbottom!

Now, getting back into something that isn’t super-rewarding in itself (and I’m not saying that writing isn’t like that for anyone at all – it’s just always a bit of a chore for me, even though I like to do it) really can be pretty hard. And it’s not like nothing happened in the meantime, there was a lot I could have made a post about in the meantime.

But then again, writing the first post in a blog after a whole lot of time feels weirdly a lot more like writing the first awkward post that started everything back then, and maybe that’s one of the reasons it’s getting harder and harder to get back into something. I guess eventually a lot of people aren’t the kind of animal that is having an easy time getting off it’s butt and start doing something, and I’m definitely one of them. That’s why routines and habits are so important!

The only solution apparently is to keep the lazy butt hovering over the comfy armchair, instead of slumping down in it to never get up for doing anything again (or at least for a long time). But anyway, hereby I made the first step for being more active again, so hopefully I’ll keep up with it from now on!

Maybe I should just start to kick people more often..
