In games like WoW it happens that I come across NPC’s who say beautiful or inspiring things, so since I don’t have much time today I thought it would be nice to share one of my recent favourites, a quote from Lamplighter Sunny on the Wandering Isle:
It is said, “Turn your face towards the sun, and the shadows will fall behind you.”
I hope you find many bright days ahead of you!

Seems like the Pandaren really have some wonderful quotes going for them ^^ My favourite is simply one of the passing phrases “May you find mastery in your passions”. Strikes me as something everyone should strive for in their life.

I like stuff like this in games – Using creative writing to come up with sort-of mantras or sayings that can be fairly impactful on you. I think the best example I can think of which worked for me was in the Knights of the Old Republic games and the codes they invented for the Jedi and the Sith. Added something really cool to the lore and made you understand both sides and how things aren’t so black and white and run in a more morally grey area.

It also makes the world more interesting and engaging I think, and somewhat rewarding to actually talk to even unimportant NPC’s in the game because you never know what you will find.
Though I never played any of those, is there a link or something where I could take a look at the codes?

There you go. I think introducing those particular pieces of lore really helped to make the player think about each side more carefully and what each actually offers rather than being the “good guy” or the “bad guy” and it’s a big reason I love those games a lot.
I think it’s great when an NPC can impact the lore of the world and can help you to understand the characters (even the small NPC’s) more and at the same time can affect you in as a person in the real world. That Pandarian quote is a pretty good example of this because it helps you understand the Pandarians as a race more and how their culture is based around balance etc – but the quote itself still has meaning and can be applied in the real world. I think stuff like that is just such excellent creative writing.

Thank you, I will take a look now! 😀
And that’s pretty much exactly why I liked this one and decided to post it, it’s so small and short but says so much. Makes me kind of wonder wether the writers of Blizzard actually came up with it or found it somewhere.. but then again, it still has to come from someone who thought of it.^^
